Grown in a boutique tea garden in Victoria's alpine region this is a herbaceous, grassy tea with a subtle hint of the Australian eucalyptus forest surrounding the plantation. This Australian green tea has a bright amber-green infusion and a delicate sweet savoury taste.

This particular style of Sencha is harvested in the first month of spring. It is a popular style of Japanese green tea known for its powerful health benefits and weight loss properties.

Camellia Sinensis (tea plant)

The health properties of green tea has been extensively studied and was summarises in the long list of “health benefits [1] of consuming green tea, including the prevention of cancer [2] and cardiovascular diseases [3], the anti-inflammatory [4], antiarthritic [5], antibacterial [6], antiangiogenic [7], antioxidative [8], antiviral [9], neuroprotective [10], and cholesterol-lowering effects [11] by a 2010 literature review [12].

The caffeine and polyphenols found in green tea have also been shown to increase weight loss [13].
One specific polyphenols found in green tea (camellia sinensis) has been the focus of much of the research, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Findings demonstrate several beneficial properties, including anti-cancer [14,15,16], antioxidant, anti-diabetic, anti-hypertensive, anti-microbial, and anti-metabolic syndrome effects as well as improving fertility in humans and animals [17]. EGCG varies substantially among different types of teas with green teas having the highest concentration. Among green teas there is a large difference as well, ranging from 5.8% EGCG of dry leaf weight to under 1%. Japanese green teas typically have the highest percentage of EGCG with sencha being the highest of all [18].
